By walker on 6/9/2006 on walker's blog A wheelie is one of the most important skills to learn on a bike. It can save your face from certain destruction. Furthermore, it is one of the things people love to see. You could be the hero at a race and with your friends if you can pull that wheelie. Making a wheelie possible isn't that difficult. However, like when you first learned to go down that scary hill, it is all about commitment. A wheelie on a bicycle begins with a low gear, but not too low. You'll have to have enough gear ratio to actually move the bike. Get the bike into low gear, start pedaling, sit back on the saddle and pull hard on the handlebars - yeah, right! OK, so a thousand of your closest friends have given you this same advice. But it really is that simple. With the front wheel, hopefully, in the air, keep your posture upright. You might have to move your body around to keep your balance. Don't hunch over the handlebars - commit. Finally, practice, practice, practice!!! |
