By walker on 4/17/2008 on walker's blog Just took my racing shoes out last weekend and filled them with dust and supercharged fun! The 2008 Dawn til Dusk 12 hour mountain bike race is finished and I feel good about 5th place/Duo. This race has it all! Desert heat (and morning cold), a cool group of folks from town, pros, intermediates, beginners, kids and dogs all love the Gallup race scene. My friend and I did too, especially, like I mentioned before, when we get 5th place! Each lap of the race covers about 13 miles and 1700 feet of elevation gain. One has little time to get stuck in the clouds as the course is full of technical sections and twisty and tight singletrack. The first climb of the course gave everyone a "big nasty" as they pushed their legs through to get to the top. There were many teams competing this year for the glory of the finishing dusk! Solos cranked out the pain, duos sprinted each lap like it mattered most and three - seven-man teams just had the most fun of all of us! At the end of a hot and sometimes windy day, the results came in. Tired as we were it was great to see all the cyclists come together in suppport of what we had just accomplished. To check to see if one of your favorite local cyclists made the top whatever go here: http://www.dawntilduskrace.net/subpage.php?do=results.
