Well here is my unoffical review of the 2007 Trek 6000. I was riding a 2006 Schwinn Mesa because I was not sure I was going to actually pick up this sport. After my first ride and crash I was hooked. I ne I needed some better euipment but money was an issue. Finally I decided to buy a new car (05 Xterra)and sell my old POS car. The money I got for the POS was what I could spend on a bike. I made enough to buy a Trek 6000 with disc brakes. First off I love this bike. The disc brakes alone make it a smoother ride especially when the terrain is a little wet. The handling is very good and the manuverability is amazing compared to my earlier ride. Weight wise it is still a little heavier than I would like but in time this too will also be upgraded. I think this is a great mid range bike for those riders just getting into the sport of MTBing. It has quality components and a name like trek to back it up. Disc brakes are a must for any mountain biker. please dont waste your money on abike without them, you will regret it. Especially in wet terrain. |

I am new at MTBing and I just got my trek 6000 2 days ago and the back wheel is already wobbly and the the bolt that holds the crank in keeps coming loose...I really like this bike but I don't know if it is me that has done somthing wrong or what... |

the bolt that holds the crank in keeps coming loose is apparently common with Trek. It happened to my firends Trek 4300 Disc. I have had no problems with the Trek 6000 yet. My advice is take it the bike shop I hope you bought it from and tell them the bike is under a new warranty and you want it replaced for free. If you bought it used off ebay or something then you will have to replace the part yourself. The back wheel being wobbly probably means it needs to be trued. Again, any bike repair shop can do this for a few bucks and if you bought the bike new from a shop make them do it for free. I have always asked that they true the wheels before I leave with my purchase. Hope this helps and sorry bout your bike. Ride on!! |

I would recomend getting the Trek 6000 series. I have one my self and I love to ride the hell out of it. It has great handling and is very agile. This hardtail grips the hills and lets you really put your foot into it. However, I do recomend getting either clipless pedals, or getting a pedal basket due to the low level of traction the pedals offer. The shimano derailers are fantastic, easy smooth shifts every time. I purchesed mine at the Rincon Valley Cyclery about 2 weeks ago and and have ridden it many times since. |

The 07' Trek 6000 disk is nice- but as you pack-in some mileage and your skills improve, you will yearn for something much lighter and more responsive. For me- that bike was the 2006 Cannondale F600. It's a whole 5lbs lighter- and the SRAM X7 drivetrain performs just like Shimano XTR....for a fraction of the price! |
