By walker on 11/14/2006 on walker's blog I think the cycling coaching-master Rick Crawford invented BASE training. Do you know what BASE is? According to Rick it is... “Base training is the foundation of endurance fitness and benefits athletes on many different levels. If done correctly, riding base can propel an athlete to new levels of success. But that is just it, it must be done correctly or its value is diminished greatly. Base is the time that I am most inflexible with my athletes, it takes great patience on their part.” You could also go to his camp to learn more... BASE is basically riding VERY SLOWLY for a VERY LONG TIME! It means your heart rate isn't jumping around. It means lots of conversation when you ride. It means slow and cold rides in the winter. Some of the best cyclists in the world BASE ride, but is it good for you? Does it work? In my opinion, I would rather hike a 13,000 foot peak in the winter and ski down the North side. This means my heart rate is WAY over the BASE limit. Do you think I'm hurting my chances for cycling success? This might be a question for our XC racing consituents: Do you ride BASE or not? |
A dorky training thing callled: BASE
