By walker on 11/22/2006 on walker's blog You are inside, because it is cold outside. This means you are in the movie zone! You are probably on your spin bike or your stationary bike or on the couch eating god knows what. It is winter and that means MOVIES!
But, what kind of movies? What kind of movie will keep you interested in your pedaling, or your couch potatoe-ing. I certainly can't fail to mention that Thanksgiving is around the corner, which means mandatory nap time. When I think of good movies, I think of the following components:
This morning while eating my Peanut Butter Granola from Erin Baker, I listened to an National Public Radio story about the classic sports movie (you can listen to it here). I hate to say it, but I think the commentator is spot on! Most of the sports movies I've seen contain the following elements:
"Rocky," "Days of Thunder," "Hoosiers," "American Flyers," "Rudy" and many others all contain the same elements. So, if sports movies are all the same, why do we keep watching them? Is it because of their predictability? Whatever it is, I can promise you this much: If Rocky V comes on while I'm recovering from my Turkey overload, I'm going to watch it, happily. |
Are all sports movies the same?

C'mon, Walker! I can't BELIEVE you left out one of the all-time greats: Breaking Away! It has all of the elements you mentioned above, plus the one x-factor that makes it a legend: it made Mom cry. Serious! |
