Parks...the name fits

By Arookadooka on 12/8/2006

I live near a civil war battlefield that is known in the area for its trails. I went there this past summer to try out my bike on a few of the trails and I just to be informed that the only places you were allowed to ride were on the paths on the street. I have a mountain bike and personally I hate the sound that the big knobby tires make when they run on pavement, its like finger nails on a chalkboard to me. But I didn't want to get arrested and I assumed that there was a good reason for not allowing bikes on the trails. Maybe there had been a problem with erosion or hikers complaining or something of that nature.

The Natives are Restless

By Arookadooka on 12/2/2006

I live in the North Georgia mountains, so my first bike was a mountain bike, it had to be for the terrain of my DRIVEWAY! I love ridding there, and I wouldn't trade it for anything, but you always have to be on the lookout for wildlife. Once I was riding on a trail back behind my house and while rushing down a steep hill, I suprised a couple of deer. Luck for me they didn't have and fawns so they just ran away.
Recently, along with the freakishly warm weather, I have seen a lot of animals that should have migrated/holed-up out and about. The other day while riding on a trail I saw a rather large black rat snake stretch across the trail. I tried to stop or to dodge or something but it seemed my options were limited and my front tire rolled across the snake. Of course then I came to a stop only half across the now agitated snake.
