By BrandonST on 1/10/2008 on BrandonST's blog I recently (well, in the spring) had my first true downhill mtb experience at Blue Mountain in Collingwood. I knew I would enjoy it, but didn't quite understand how much it would suck me in. It was me and my buddy, who decided to stick it out riding his Devinci Hucker dirt jump bike. I was lucky enough to have just gotten my Kona Dawg, so I at least had 5.5" of travel front and back. My legs and arms were killing me by the end of the day, and my buddy was pretty much useless for the rest of the weekend, being bounced around like the Plinko chip on The Price Is Right. Anyway, I digress. I was, before this, strictly a XC/All Mountain rider, and didn't know why I would want to be anything else. I got some fun short downhills to enjoy, and some nice winding trail, and some gut-reducing climbs to boot! What else can one person need?! I was so wrong. I know now how important it is to embrace every aspect of our sport, so I've been trying my hand at some urban riding, some dirt jumping, and more of my newfound love: downhill. This is a sport that I know I will never get bored of, because there's always somewhere new to ride, and always a different way to do it. Never again will I ask "What else can one person need?". |

Ha! Funny you should ask...I need a better bike before my 220lb. rump starts jumping. I already killed one Wal-Mart bike, I don't need kill this one! |

Yeah, I'm up to about the same weight, so I'm glad I have a couple of strong bikes. I don't think a Wal-Mart bike would last too long! How long before it was totalled? |
