By Steve Outing on 9/5/2006 on Hey, everyone. I'm going to start using my blog here more frequently to let you know what we're working on here at YourMTB.com, as well as to make announcements when we've got something new to share with you. We've been working on a couple of what we think are very cool features for the site that will be super useful to you. We're almost ready to release them and let you try them out. No. 1: User Directory. OK, "user directory" sounds dull, but hold on! ... because this will be cool. Think of this feature as THE WAY TO FIND OTHER PEOPLE TO RIDE WITH in your area (or a way to find someone to ride with when you're traveling someplace where you want to ride and not be alone). With the user directory, you'll be able to find other riders located in your country, or state, or city. If they've specified their riding ability, you'll even be able to find MTBers who are about your level. No. 2: Buddies. This is part of the User Directory, actually. When you find someone in your area who you'd like to ride with, or find a friend who's a member of YourMTB.com, you'll be able to add them to your Buddy List. Then when you've assembled a Buddy List, you'll be able to easily send them messages (such as, "Hey, let's ride on Saturday!"). No. 3: Groups. This will be really useful for lots of you. If you have a riding group, you'll be able to create a Group page on YourMTB.com and invite your friends to join the group. The group page will be available for posting whatever you want to share with your group -- event listings, photos, videos, ride reports ... whatever. You'll use your group to arrange rides and meetings. If you don't have a group of your own, start one. Or join an existing group. We'll support geographic groups (like my own riding group in Boulder, Colorado) as well as topical groups (like, say, women mountain bikers in Montana). No. 4: Spell-check. Not the world's best speller? We just bought a spell-checker to add to YourMTB.com. It's super easy and convenient, and should be ready in the coming days. So that's some of what we're working on. More later... Steve Outing |
