By MikeG on 11/24/2006 on MikeG's blog Last Saturday was a good ride. I'm writing this later because I'm busy with a side job at night to make a little extra cash (for MTB stuff of course!). We had quite a ride because it was muddy. It had been raining all week. At least if it is really cold, then the mud is frozen, but not this week. Even though I experienced a lot of muddy sections, I still managed to do well, since I had been working on shifting my weight to the back. It really works well to avoid spinning the back tire. This has made my climbing, even in muddy conditions, go amazingly well. Today I really showed my stuff to the other guys. There were sections where I was surprised that I didn't have to get off and do some 'cross-training' as we like to call it. In fact, when the other guys headed for the road to go home, I went on to do a total of 40km. This includes about 12km from my home, to the trails and back. This time though, towards the end, I really wanted to get home. This was the first time in a long while that I came back with sore legs. It must have been all of that mud that we had to slog through. It had that feeling like the mud was just gooping off the tires, you know, what we call flat tire syndrome? My thighs really hurt, and especially just above the knees. At first I thought it was my knees that hurt, which made me worry a bit. I thought that maybe it was too cold for what I was wearing. I reached a landmark today too! My odometer reached 1000km since Father's Day, the day I got my computer. I was wondering if it would just turn over, but it looks like it may go to either 1999km or 9999km, I'm not sure. Just in case you guys want to know, 1 mile = 1.609km I can't wait till Saturday morning, our regular ride day. It hasn't rained all week and it might actually be above freezing, like 6 deg C or so. I have been using a forecast website called www.accuweather.com. Sorry if you've been bored to tears with this blog, but this is for my own archival purposes, to record significant events and keep track of facts and when they happened. |
