Fontana Fest Weekend, from Bad to Good – a weekend of angry bee sounds! The Weekend got a delayed start due to the wife having to work, Harrison and I had the car packed and all of our pre-trip running around done… got on the road about 5:15 or so which landed us into Asheville bumper to bumper traffic; which was at a snails pace, or slower for almost forty minutes… once we were able to hit i40 and pass the construction the traffic started moving normally. The dog traveled like a champ, no dog vomit hurl-fest this trip, way to go Sass  … We get up to Stechoa (between Tsali & Fontana Village) a little after nine, upon arrival Darrin (organizer) says hey I need you to camp all the way at the end near the road to keep the dog out of sight….No Dogs allowed! I had asked earlier “Hey can I bring a dog?”…. “No prob”… well? so we set up camp 15 feet off of a bustling hwy 28. Swarms of Harley’s and semi-trucks hawlin’ ass at 50-60+mph as we’re setting, “oh, this is gonna be fun” wife wasn’t amused. We get some much needed food into our systems and get a beer or two, and make our way over to the stage area were everyone is having a good time… around 11pm the wife, kid and dog head over to take a shower, and are gone for a few minutes, and then my son returns saying “Dad, we gotta leave” Huh? “Dad we gotta leave…” so find the wife, and say fuming, Ok what’s wrong? seems the owner of the campground confronted her by saying, “I’m sorry but you cant stay here with a dog, you’ll have to leave” we just set up camp and it’s past 11pm and now we have to go teardown camp and find another place to stay? so I tell Darrin the situation, and as we were packing up, he comes back and says “Y’all can stay, just got to keep her over in own corner next to the highway….” It was humorous (looking back) every time we doze off to sleep, some semi-truck downshifting flying down the mountain highway would fly past our tent…. here are some pics: Next morning, got breakfast and packed the car to go ride Tsali, we were late and had missed the group ride, by about five minutes… we didn’t want to hold them up, and told them to go on , “we’ll catch up” and we did Tsali Group Ride flat Thompson trail is such a great ride for kids , and Harrison was doing such a great job. right before Yellow Jacket attack YeOUCH! Right after . |
