So Funky banged out a smoking 55 minute lap. This was his first mountain bike race. He started riding singletrack 4 months ago. I gave him 4 days notice to ride in this race. Of course he was up for the challenge. He is battered and bruised but in one piece. The same can not be said for Funk's bike. The rear wheel rubs when he puts the power down. Scooter diagnosed the issue as bent rear linkage. He dished the wheel and put on a smaller rear tire. That should do the trick as long as the Funkster is careful. Funky is learning that in order to compete in this race, he needs to keep himself and his equipment in working order. |

That bike is so dead...I haven't seen anyone kill a frame like that since...hmmm, Mattmon and the Ultimate, or Brentie and the two peice Klein headset? PS, I think Funky enjoyed using the Yeti for his last lap but missed having suspension -- oh yeah, and the fact that Scoot and Mattmon pumped the tires up to 50 psi probably helped the rigidity factor as well...no more flats though:) |

My favorite cranked frame moment was when you and The McCraken were in the basement of the rental house at Timberline doing who knows what. Regardless, you yell up the stairs "Dude Man . . . the Merlin's cracked." I'm thinking, no way. "Shut up you damn drunks!" "No man it really is cracked." Uh huh. "We're serious man." At this point, I limp down the stairs. Sure enough, the drunks were right. I purposely did not ride the Merlin for 2 years because I knew that once I rode it that I would crack it. If not for the fact that the seatpost in my Klein had chemically fused to the seat tube, I would have taken the Klein. Without being able to remove the seatpost, I could not fit it into the box for the flight to West Virginia. The Merlin sure was fast while it lasted. |

Currently researching a new ride...something that will hold up to repeated tree collisions at 5-19 mph. |

I recommend a Huffy or a Murray. |
