By AlbanyFreeride on 6/8/2007 on AlbanyFreeride's blog Groups: Iron Horse Downhill Series/Dual Slalom Nights (VT) Hey everyone, my name is Matty-C and i'll be one of three correspondents covering the Iron Horse Downhill Series at Mt Snow. I cant tell you how excited I am to be going. Ive never ridden or raced at Snow before so I really dont know what to expect. Talking to my riding buddies, they all say one thing.........FAST. Thats fine with me. Let me give you all a little background info on me first. Im from Albany, NY and im 26 years old. I've been riding bikes, seriously, since I was 12. I started of racing road bikes then eventually the mountain bike bug hit me. I never really raced until I was 16. I really only did local races, but that was enough for me (and my parents). Soon I learned about downhill racing. I was imediatley drawn to it. I was working at a bike shop at the time and picked up a "long travel" bike. It was a Jamis Dakar Expert. I loved that bike. I raced as much as I could and rode even more. I eventually got a grassroots sponsorship with Jamis, and that drove me to race more. I was never a star at the events but i've never really cared about competition with other people, I really only cared about the competition with myself and what I know I am capable of. That doesnt mean I don't go all out, I do the best I can at every event. After a long hiatus, I am racing again. I am racing at the beginner level this year to get back into the swing of things. I am currently sponsored by 661, e13 and Atomlab. You'll be able to find me at all of the Iron Horse races at Mt Snow and the Extreme DH series at Plattekill Mountain. Feel free to stop by my tent and say hi. Im easy to find. Bright white Specialized BigHit, Yellow VW Beetle and a blue canopy tent. Im always down with meeting new folks and riding with new people. Like I said before, I really dont know what to expect course wise for this weekend. I think i'm primed and ready to go. I did a complete tear down and rebuild of the bike, been working hard on sprints, hitting the dirt jumps and working hard on balance. Time will only tell if all this work will pay off on Sunday. I'll be shure to let you know. Well, hopefully I can bring you all some exciting news and even more exciting photography from this weekend. Time will only tell! I have to start packing so I have to go, but you all will be hearing from me real soon! I wish everyone luck that is competing and lets have some fun! Peace, |
