By walker on 8/8/2006 on walker's blog There is something special about a lunch ride. If you work in an office and you're swamped with tasks, a lunch ride can take your mind away to a special place. A lunch ride can re-energize you. It is a break from the ordinary. It is power mountain biking for an hour and I love it. My lunch ride is typically at two places: 1) The Horse Gulch trail system is all about variety. Downhill, technical, suffer-feast and lazy roads all exist here. There are also abundant hour rides here. In other words, I can choose from about five loops that take me about an hour to ride. They are perfect lunch rides. 2) The Durango Park trail system is one thing: HILLS. If I want to bang out a bunch of hill repeats, I go to the Durango Park trail system. It is also one of the best places to practice jumps. Where do you ride your bike at lunch? Are you even interested in a lunch ride? Maybe you don't touch a trail, but you're out on the bike city style. Tell me more about your lunch, too. |
How often do you ride at lunch?

I usually don't ride at lunch... typically before dinner. My lunch is usually a sandwhich (PB&J or meat) and milk with fruit. And then a desert like a cookie, brownie, pie or cake. |

Well, that sounds like a good lunch. Today I had a lap around Durango Mountain Park hell-climb with a downhill sandwich. Very tasty! Walker T Off the road, on the mind... |

I work in the field so I never have my bike with me. I did have a office job at one time in Colorado Springs and could ride the mtb to Ute Valley Park or take a road ride through Garden of the Gods to Manitu Springs and up Cave of the Winds Rd. or to Gold Camp Rd.. It was a great office for the noon ride. Bill |

I work from home now, but also worked in the field. If you plan it right in the field, you take your "lunch break" when you find the trail head... A good hr ride does wonders for the rest of the work day. Now that I am full time at home in front of the PC all day long, I try to make the time for the "Lunch Ride" - maybe I start an hour early or plan to work an hour later and get in the 1 - 2 hr lunch ride. It's amazing how productive those long afternoon hours that usually drag by and you have to energize with a snickers, can be if you have energized with a lunch ride. I've got it down to a science over at West Magnolia in Nederland - a 45 minute loop, 15 min each way from home and no one ever misses me :-) Ride On! |

Very nice! It is good see that you make time for riding. I follow a similar sequence and I keep three trails as my standard lunch ride. I love it, because, I too have it down to a science. It is all about being precise, eh? Walker T Off the road, on the mind... |
