By walker on 4/16/2006 on walker's blog - I drink a protein mix – it tastes good and I think it helps recovery Supplements - they’re like a fun game – more like a bet. I mean, who knows if they’ll work. The placebo effect might just be the answer to your recent success up that last big climb on that last big hill – not the protein pill Major Tom. I like to place this bet and I’m betting my new supplement will work. I’m eating liver now. Well, I’m swallowing a pill – a horse pill. The pill is designed to help produce more red blood cells. Like EPO (erythropoietin), but legal, a liver pill helps your blood pile on the oxygen. I’m not sure on the science so click here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erythropoietin). What I do know is I’ve noticed a difference. To start the pill is loaded with B12 (12 mcg). So, it isn’t any wonder that I’d be all amped up. Beyond the immediate affects, I feel like I can recover from sprinting, quickly. I’ve been taking it for three weeks, so I’m surprised to feel something. I feel like the iron supplement was worth the investment so I feel good about that, too. I take supplements because I want to ride, a lot, everyday, all the time, at night and during family vacations. My goal is to play. Playing is training to me and if these supplements can extend play time – call it recess – then good for my little pill and me. Friends of mine say that a supplement is weak. “Eat real food.†They say. I tell them, “hey I eat ginger snaps,†then they find me an hour later eating liver in the backyard by the trees – think: paint chips. Do you take supplements? Do you think supplements are silly? |
