By Jobes_83 on 3/11/2007 I woke up this morning expecting to see a gloomy sky and a yard soaked with the rain predicted by weather.com. How ecstatic I was when I found it bone dry and as sunny as a June morning. My wife and I scrambled to make breakfast and get our gear together. We hadn't bothered last night due to the forecast. The closest trail to where we live is about 45 minutes away (barring the Battleground footpath that we sometimes ride illegally). We recently discovered a new trail near the Airforce base in Manchester at about the same distance so we decided to try it. It was glorious. There were more curves than I could have dreamed up, short, robust climbs, and fast, twisty downhills. The ground was hard and fast and the forest was beautiful. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, we came upon a long, steep downhill that swerved gracefully left and right. I must have been going 40 miles an hour along that stretch, gears maxed out. What a rush! |
