By AlbanyFreeride on 8/18/2007 on AlbanyFreeride's blog Groups: Iron Horse Downhill Series/Dual Slalom Nights (VT) Hey everyone! Just got back from practice and I gotta say this is by far my favorite course out of any race I have ever raced anywhere at anytime. Disagree if you will, BUT I LOVE IT! The course starts from the top of the Quad lift and immediately decends into a very rocky section. Not just rocky, but also slightly off camber and with some good hidden ledges. Amidst the large more permanent rocks are good size loose rocks, there just to make sure you stay off the line you want. The run then takes a sharp left into the woods where you find yourself winding through a semi steep wooded section laden with mud and slipery roots. You come out of the woods into a flat section thats good for making up anytime you may have lost up top. From here you find yourself in a position to make a couple decisions that could ultimately decide the fate of your run. Your faced with a rock garden with multiple lines. The upper line was by far the smoothest and probably the fastest with larger smoother rocks that were firmly placed, but with how off camber it was you run a very high risk of sliding out. The low line consisted of medium size loose rocks and boulders and was definetly a little bit slower but ultimately safer. To the risk taker the spoils will go. After this your placed in another wooded section very reminiscent to the previous wooded section up top. Lots of wet roots, mud and some decent berms. When you complete this portion you find your self taking a slippery left hand turn onto the last section of the course, about a half mile of fire road. Fast, fast fire road. This will be a great spectator spot, its easy to get there from the bottom and will offer some good action, what with the water bars to jump and corners to drift through. I actually switched to a larger chainring just to get some more power through this section. Well, all in all the course is in great shape and everyone seems eager to race tomorrow. The race crowd seemed kind of small today, not a very long line at the lifts like normal. It will be interesting to see how many people race tomorrow. Well, time to get some rest and make some changes to the bike for the b ig day tomorrow! Hope to see you all there! Happy and Safe Riding! |
