By walker on 7/27/2007 on walker's blog You can pretty much go to any website to find stories about doping in cycling these days. The press, the new media initiative that is yourmtb.com and even the big networks are picking up the story. CyclingNews.com: here's an incredible write up of the biggest change in the Tour this year International Herald Tribune: a story about Rasmussen vowing to continue his cycling career Telegraph.co.uk: published a story about a French newspaper that posted an obituary for the Tour de France - classic Around the water cooler at my office, my friend and company Controller are baffled by these events. Is the sport of cycling ruined? As cyclists, are we now scrutinized? As racers in NORBA or Ironman events, are guilty until proven innocent? These questions and many others surround our office discussion. To be honest with you folks, I'm extremely saddened by this outcome. I think of the book the Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. A woman in the story commits adultery. Set in Puritan New England, because of her actions she is ordered to wear a red cloth with a red "A" displayed. It signifies that she has done something wrong and everyone should know about it. Will our bikes be similar to the letter? What's your opinion on these recent events? Post a comment and let's get a conversation going... |
Need we say anything more about DOPING!!!

I don't think it's dead. The Tour has just concluded, and I still think it was one of the best ever. The drug users add to the drama, but what the hell, it's still great sport. I mean, Barry Bonds got big really fast, but most of you will still watch him break the record. We have just accepted steroid controversy as part of that game. It's not right...but it's there. Instead of dwelling on the abusers, I'm impressed with the pro communities desire to clean itself up, to include the sponsors...now that is progress. What we have is not an obituary, but rather a rebirth. The Peleton will ride on. Cheers, "I Will Never Draw Ethical Circles Around The Things That I Do". |
