By walker on 8/9/2007 on walker's blog The road bike champion Lance Armstrong, it appears, will not be heading to the Leadville 100 race! According to an exclusive on www.mtbcast.com, the ex-Tour de France winner will hang the mountain wheels up and pass on the incredible 100-mile race in Leadville, CO. In a story posted by Bicycling Magazine, it was on his calendar. So why the drop off? Well the race is a few days away, so there might be a surprise visit, who knows. As a mountain bike racer, I can tell you that I've dropped out of races for a lot of reasons. I wonder what Lance's reason is...For more information on this story, go to: http://mtbcast.com/wordpress/?p=412 |

Unfortunately this is the SECOND time he has backed out this year. Just make up your mind already..... |

Come on Lance... its just dirt and rocks! Hey Walker, did you make out to Leadville for the race? |
walker says:
I didn't. My duty lay locally here. Wanted to race against Travis Brown. Besides, the race that I did gave out serious cash and prizes... Next year: leadville, for sure... Walker T Off the road, on the mind... |

I did watch the Leadville 100. Even though Lance didn't come, it was an incredible race between Floyd Landis and Dave Wiens (local colorado boy). Those two were neck and neck for 100 miles! Landis crashed in the first hour, ripping up his right side, and he flatted later on but still gave it his all. Wiens ended up beating Flyod by about 90 seconds, which is incredibly close for a 100 mile race. They both trashed the course record by over 5 minutes. I am guessing, but I think Lance didn't come because both Wiens and Floyd were taking the race seriously and were training hard while Lance wasn't. |
