By walker on 7/6/2007 on walker's blog There are a select group of people I would like to thank! Over the past few weeks the Forest Service and the Southwest Conservation Corp have cleared the way, so to speak. By removing trees from the trails and making needed repairs to MTB turnpikes, they have made mountain biking a lot easier on us two-wheelers. Thanks to these crews, I don't have to go around the downed trees, because there are no downed trees. These groups mainly focus on the BLM/FS land. This means they go high (up to 12,000 feet) to make sure trails are ride-able. In Durango, after the snow subsides to the shining sun, it weighs heavily on the vegetation causing it to come crashing down on to important sections of trails. Many times the snow run-off is so intense that it ruins the trail altogether. These amazing groups make my weekend riding that much more enjoyable, so why am I thanking them on this blog? Well, I ran into a few of them on the 4th of July. I stopped to ask them about their trail work and with all my heart said, "Thanks, I really appreciate what you're doing." |
Saying Thank You to Trail Crews...
Don Watts says:
I am one of those people that get great enjoyment in building and maintaining trails. While thank you and "Nice Job" make me smile and feel proud, what really gets me excited is the person who stops, gets off the bike and asks, "What can I do to help. Take some time and go help out at a trail maintenance workday. You will have a whole new outlook on riding. |

Don, I can't thank you enough for posting your comment here. I like your perspective and it makes sense. You're right! Sending a check, saying thank you and the like is no replace for getting one's hands dirty. Thanks! Walker T Off the road, on the mind... |
