Hindsight is 20/20

Waiting To Start My Ride As Laps Tick Away In The Transition Tent.

I got an email today  from Nigel, my 24 Hours of Moab teammate.  He spent some time looking at the times of our laps and noticed that our team, which finished 2nd in the Clydesdale category, managed to only loose an average of 1 minute per lap on the first place team.

Our team did 16 laps.  If you are math savvy and have been paying attention, that means my team came in 16 minutes behind 1st place.  Four of those laps were ridden by me...  That means I'm responsible for at least four of those minutes.

Support Is Your Fifth Teammate

Home Away From Home - My tent where I was able to get some sleep during the race.

It has already been nearly a week since the 24 Hours of Moab and I feel as through there is so much more to blog about it.  The race may be over, but the spirit still remains.  And with that thought I'll keep rambling on about my experience there.

I have heard from others that "Support is your fifth teammate."

I cannot agree with that enough.

24 Hours of Moab is In The Books

Team Ballistic Stillness: (Left to Right) Bill, Brady, Nigel, Nancy, Keith

What an amazing event!!!  I have never done anything like it!  I loved it!

The trails were great.  The riders were great.  The volunteers and staff were great.  I could keep going...

However, I'm exhausted.  The one thing I didn't plan for was the 3rd part/challenge to a 24 hour race.

Part 1:  Planning, traveling, and preparing/setup.
Part 2:  Racing.

My Favorite 24 Hour Tips

Well, the last 24 Hours has been an exercise in communication, multi-tasking, and time management as I worked on the fringe details associated with getting ready for the 24 Hours of Moab.

Physical... Check. I'm Still Working on Mental

The Dirty Bismarck. My Training Loop for the 24 Hours of Moab.

Yesterday afternoon I spent an hour riding a very familiar route, which I refer to as the "Dirty Bismarck."  The reason I call it the "Dirty Bismarck" is because it is a 14 mile "mostly" dirt loop, which is contained within the perimeter of paved roads that were ridden during the "Morgul Bismarck"; once part of the Coors Classic.

As the minutes tick away the the 24 Hours of Moab gets closer...

Not to make you nervous or anything, but are you ready for the race?  Is anybody ever ready?  Seriously, I don't know the answer to that because this is my first year participating in the event.

A Great Start to a Summer of Riding

By TC guru on 9/7/2006
Ascending Porcupine Rim Trail

Every year I start my season with a trip to Moab, Utah with a good buddy, some camping gear, and a cooler of the best beer money can buy. This year was no different. In May I left my home in Colorado for a long and glorious weekend of camping and riding in Moab.

Driving in a car for 6 hours can be torture on the mind. However, add a buddy that you’ve been great friends with for over 2 decades and the drive in a car becomes a ROAD TRIP! Topics of discussion included women, bikes, work, bikes, slapstick humor, bikes… etc. You get the point. The trip was a blur and we arrived in Moab around 1AM and started looking for a campsite. By 3AM we were fast asleep and dreaming sweet dreams under the starry sky.
