What To Do If You Find A Secret Trail

By walker on 4/4/2008 on walker's blog
The Tag OF THE DAY

Just the other day I get a call from a friend of mine. It went something liek this: Walker, you can't tell anyone, but I found the coolest trail EVER! Don't worry, we'll go this weekend... Knowing my friend, he is correct, no one knows about it, however, and he's usually pretty good about not spraying too much about new trails, but what about the rest of us? Below are five tips on what to do if you find a secret trail...

  1. KEEP IT TIGHT, DUDE! Much like my friend, you'll want to tell someone, so when you do, keep it to a small trusted group. You know it is going to get out eventually, but the more you mitigate that the longer your trail becomes your little secret.
  2. IN THIS CASE, YOUR BLOG ISN'T YOUR TRAILS FRIEND! OK, I'm a collaborator and internet hound, but in this case, I'd say keep the new trail out of your blog. Let it mature first and when you feel ready, post it. Until then, keep your gems.
  3. CAMO YOUR CAR! When you're at the trail, don't go nuts on the cars. Try to keep their presense to a minimum. If I see car racks, I know mountain bikers are there. Watch out for people like me!
  4. DON'T TELL YOUR WIFE! Need I say more... HA HA HA
  5. WATCH OUT FOR THE DRINKING BUDDIES! Again, need I say more...

Well, more on this secret trail when I go there... HA HA HA

I was actually just going to tell you about the absolute best trail in the world that is near you and I know you haven't ridden but now I'm not going to.

Anyone else want to know?

Hah! Just kidding, I understand what you're saying! Before long, there are horses on it and forget the groomed singletrack...
