What to do when you're doing business on the road...

By walker on 5/1/2007 on walker's blog

Well, not only am I on the road this week, but I'm in the city. I imagine that a lot of us have to take these types of business/family trips, so what do you do to stay fit while on the road?

Here's a little list I came up with:

  1. Jumping on your hotel bed while watching reruns of the Cosby Show.
  2. Connecting two towels together to form a jump rope and then doing 5 minute intervals.
  3. Running up and down the hotel hall screaming, "I just want to mountain bike!!!" over and over again -- great stress relief.
  4. Setting wake-up calls for 1:00 AM in the rooms next to you and leaving a note saying that you'll meet them outside for some wind sprints -- be careful on this one.
  5. Running up and down the stairs, truly a classic.
  6. Hanging from the balcony and doing chin ups, not recommended for balconies on the second floor and up.
  7. NOT VALET parking, come on, you got to walk sometime.
  8. Pushing kids in the pool and running from the parents, another classic.
  9. Running in place in the pool at night, very cold, but great on the joints.
  10. Oh yeah, going to the hotel gym...

Have fun riding, because I'm not...

I scout out the local neighborhood around the hotel for a run, use the treadmill in the fitness center, or I have even ran the fire escape stairs. If that doesn't work, I use the time to give my muscles a rest. Problem is I can't handle not riding or running for more than a week without freaking out. I wish I could just sit on the hotel bed, eat Cheetos, pizza, and drink beer. Ahhhhhhh the college days!

SARGE: NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER STOP TRYING!

Navigating city traffic on a road bike is always a blast. Usually you can slip in a draft and go along at 30+ mph without trouble. The more honks you get the better the ride!
