Pedal-less and Butt Broken...

While riding yesterday, getting ready for the race on Sunday, I took a
spill. It was pretty bad, but only because I landed on a pointy rock
right on my lower back/upper butt.

I laid there in the trail,
too much in pain to move if anyone came. Luckily it only hurt really
bad for about a minute. Then I was able to stand up.

After I got
back on my feet and inspected my bike, I decided to finish the ride.
But, after riding just a few feet, I noticed my left crank arm felt
loose.

Great.

Womble Weekend Trip

This weekend is the Oral Roberts University mountain bike class trip.  I graduated last May but I've been going on the rides with them anyway.

Nothing like camping in the Ouachita Mountains for the weekend!  Skipping work on a Friday is awesome!

I usually take pictures, but I think I'm going to try and take some video instead.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Oh, and I got some new gear from a big sale at my LBS.

New saddle, co2 cartridges instead of pump, new shorts... that kind of stuff.

Endorphine Junky off the wagon!

Last weekend was the first time in three months I rode (I had pneumonia). So I felt the high Monday through Wednesday, and crashed Thursday. As life would have it, Thursday AND Friday were two days of REALLY BAD NEWS. Thursday, I got a pay cut. Friday, my dad called to tell me that my mother has a malignant mellanoma, and she is going in for surgury on Monday. They do not know how deep it is, and she will be an chemo EVERYDAY. The thing is, I know she's not strong enough to survive that kind of treatment. She's not well besides the cancer, and has not been well for a very long time.

Criminals Like Mountain Biking, Too

By TomZ on 1/18/2008 on TomZ's blog

Here's an interesting and crazy story for you. Apparently a California man robbed a bank this past Wednesday, then used a mountain bike as his getaway vehicle. From Recordnet.com:

Around 12:50 p.m., the man walked into Union
Bank of California and handed a note demanding
money to a teller.

Winter Riding

By BrandonST on 1/8/2008 on BrandonST's blog

Last post, I talked about it getting darker so much earlier...well, I've had something a little more troublesome to contend with lately...snow. Living in Canada, we're pretty much guaranteed to have 5 good months of miserable weather, from muddy to snowy, then back to muddy again. Right now, I'm in the snowy stage. I went out and bought myself a studded tire, some proper gloves, put on my snowmobile boots, and off I went, hyperactive dog in tow.

Friday is last day for YourMTB t-shirts

By yourmtb on 12/17/2007 on yourmtb's blog

We're in the process of shutting down our accounts, so Friday, December 21, is the last day we'll accept orders for YourMTB t-shirts! Only $6 plus shipping.

There are still a couple boxes of these cool t-shirts available. But if you don't order by Friday, we won't be able to sell them to you.

So order now! This really is your last chance.

UPDATE ON THE SITE: In case you're wondering, while the Enthusiast Group has shut down, YourMTB.com is continuing on. It looks like we have a new owner who will continue to support it. We'll post details when it's confirmed.

So don't worry, the site will continue on. And new ownership should be able to make it a better and more thriving community.

"Hey, Walker, how come you don't write this week?" ... Well, I'm on the road, the MTB trip road, and I got stories to tell. For one, this Arizonaian is playing "Electric Avenue" in the Elden Mountain parking lot. Score!!!

Helmet Saved Me

By sarge on 10/24/2007 on sarge's blog

Well I'm finally up and around again after a really nice crash last month. I seperated my left shoulder and got a minor concussion. I would have been in worse condition if it wasn't for my helmet. I know most YOURMTB subscibers use their helmet, but sometimes it's good to share the stories to keep reminding everyone how important the helmet is.

MTBer VS. 2 Pitt Bulls and a Mutt

I had scarey experience yesterday. I finally got my Goose (Mongoose) fixed and after not riding for two or three weeks for any considerable distance, I was chomping at the bit to go! I decided to take a nice fairly-flat road ride to the Ouchita River. With all the rain over the past few days, it should have been a sight.
