How To Train For Your Races This Year

By walker on 4/1/2008 on walker's blog
Is this what you call stretching?

Ahhh, the joy of racing and the love of deciding where to race this year! It is an important decision to consider, because

the most important things are training and peaking!

To start, training matters most, You're going to be pumping all kinds of freshy blood cells into your muscles during these

endurance fit-sessions or downhill screamer-fests, so having a fit body is important. But the right training depends on what

Welcoming eight new XC events and four UCI-sanctioned races, plus the championships, the calendar looks to tough, as usual! Podcast - Metro at the 24 Hours of Moab

By walker on 12/10/2007 on walker's blog

Hurry, hurry, hurry... You won't want to miss the start up of another Masterpiece podcast with Mr. Smooth ... the man of the hour, yes ME, YourMTB.com's very own Enthusiast-In-Chief! I'm back, folks, and with a special guest. Metro Williams joins me on this podcast and tells all about his experience on Team IMBA. Williams participated in the 24 Hours of Moab in October. However, instead of just paying an entry fee, Williams raised money on behalf of IMBA and got to hang with other fundraising-cycling-addicts during the race.

Hindsight is 20/20

Waiting To Start My Ride As Laps Tick Away In The Transition Tent.

I got an email today  from Nigel, my 24 Hours of Moab teammate.  He spent some time looking at the times of our laps and noticed that our team, which finished 2nd in the Clydesdale category, managed to only loose an average of 1 minute per lap on the first place team.

Our team did 16 laps.  If you are math savvy and have been paying attention, that means my team came in 16 minutes behind 1st place.  Four of those laps were ridden by me...  That means I'm responsible for at least four of those minutes.

Support Is Your Fifth Teammate

Home Away From Home - My tent where I was able to get some sleep during the race.

It has already been nearly a week since the 24 Hours of Moab and I feel as through there is so much more to blog about it.  The race may be over, but the spirit still remains.  And with that thought I'll keep rambling on about my experience there.

I have heard from others that "Support is your fifth teammate."

I cannot agree with that enough.

2007 24 Hours Of Moab - Check...

The fans around the starting area - the excitement builds

No rain, no wind and all fun! That's how I'd describe Moab this year. The 13th annual 24-hours of Moab finished without the death rain from last year! It was all fun and no suffering for this rider.

Team Ballistic Stillness: (Left to Right) Bill, Brady, Nigel, Nancy, Keith

What an amazing event!!!  I have never done anything like it!  I loved it!

The trails were great.  The riders were great.  The volunteers and staff were great.  I could keep going...

However, I'm exhausted.  The one thing I didn't plan for was the 3rd part/challenge to a 24 hour race.

Part 1:  Planning, traveling, and preparing/setup.
Part 2:  Racing.
