I live and bike in central Florida. You have lots of choices, but the area of Tampa (Alafia/Riverview/Boyette) has some great technical rides. We don't have the long climbs and downhills on north Georgia and NC, but you will get a great workout and thrills from the drops. So in the area of Tampa, try Alafia and Boyette. Alafia offers a wide range from easy to advanced. Boyette has longer trails and some open meadows, but very easy to get lost. Not as technical, but fun. To the north, in the area of Ocala there is Santos, which has some unbelieveable jumps and drops that were recently constructed in the mined areas. There is not much in between easy and advanced in the Santos trails. I have heard that some of the drops are restricted to when there is adequate emergency workers on site. Personally, I was not willing to risk breaking my neck, but if I was 16 again, maybe... I have been riding for 3 years and ride a giant reign 2 and a trance 2. |

I also live in Tampa and I would highly suggest Alifia River State Park. If you do the more technical trails I'm sure you will be very surprised that you are in Florida. Also you and Ultimate need to check out Razorback mtb park in Reddick Fl. it is awsome, very much worth the time. I've been riding on and off for 10 years and some of the drops there get me nervous. In Florida it's not about how far you descend it's about how steep the descent is. Good luck!! P.S. I ride an Specialized FSR XC Pro w/ Manitou Minute 4 130mm, 2.40 tires ect. |

This is great. I'm going to FL in March, and I plan on taking my bike for sure. MikeG Either riding or Thinking of Riding... The madness of MTB, I love it! |

Are there any places to go near Orlando? Or should I just drive to the Tampa (Alafia/Riverview/Boyette) area? MikeG Either riding or Thinking of Riding... The madness of MTB, I love it! |
Mattgeo says:
Mike, I'm sure there are trails near Orlando but not any I've heard of that are noteworthy. If your staying in Orlando, Alifia or Reddick would be your best bet. Alifia is probably closer also. You'll probably like Alifia, people from all over the Southeast come to ride there. If you want you can join us for a ride there, we usually ride on Sun., sometimes Sat. The trails are well marked and are all skill levels from intermediate to double black diamond. If you can't make it to Alifia, Reddick is certainly no slouch ride either. You can look up both of these trails on mtbr.com. |

P.S. Boyette is pretty lame if your into tech. stuff and it's only a couple minutes further to Alifia (ten at the most). There are actually tons of good trails in Florida but the best all round are Alifia, Reddick and Santos. Santos has an awsome big drop/freeride area and tons of flat singletrack but the best bang for your buck is Alifia River State Park or Reddick (Razorback Mtb Park). Hope that helps! |
