Bomb-ass wheel suggestions?

By malawele on 12/5/2007

So I'm finally building up my dream hardtail, and instead of using bits I already have, I want to do it right, all new.
Looking for some suggestions on some sweet-ass XC wheels. Light, but not spindly.
I have a bunch of CrossMax SL wheels now, I like them, but looking for something different.
Leaning a bit towards Industry 9 right now, but I have a sweet pair of
28 hole carbon MTB rims I was thinking about maybe building with some
240 hubs. I wish they were 32 hole, then I'd get I9 to build them up.

Malawele,

I have recently built a 2008 Stumpy Pro gound up. I looked at the Crossmax, Industry Nines and the Specialized Roval Traversee. I even did a spreadsheet w/ grams / dollars and intended use. I went with the Specialized, they were the lightest and the best priced. In fact they were lighter than most $1000.00 XC wheelsets but were rated for "all mountain" they also have a front hub that excepts QR, 20mm thru-axle or 25mm thru-axle. I have been trashing them for 2 months now and they have performed beautifully! The hubs also seem very high quality (made by DT swiss). They have a different look than the others but, not as "blingy" but, I actually like that about them. I paid 800$, IMO you should definetly look into them, you may be suprised.

Good Luck.

Just ride the drop..stop bieng a wussy!

love my spinergy wheelest! very light. bombproof -- i never even had to true them until i plowed a boulder at 20 mph and tacoed the front. customer service was good. i didn;t have any trouble getting help and they offer me a pretty good upgrade deal when i finally destroyed them.for myself, i love the look of those fat wrapped-fibre spokes.
