Clipless pedal question

By Dirt Doctor on 6/25/2008

I'm looking for some advice on clipless pedals. I've been looking at the Shimano PD-M647 and PD-M545 because I want something that I don't have to clip into all the time, but I'm not sure if either of these pedals are right for all-mountain riding, or if it's even practical to plan on riding on them without cleats. Would I be better off getting something from the XC line, and planning on always wearing cleats?

That's a great question! Walker? Sarge? Brandon? Anyone? I'm looking at the same kind of thing...

personally, i'm a huge fan of eggbeaters, ubt crank bros. makes a lot of clipless pedals with platforms as well - candy, mallet, etc. they're not as adjustable as shimanos, but they're a lot less finnicky and nearly bullet proof. find a platform that is the right size, and give 'em a try.
