I just checked the weather for Bruceton Mills and see that we are expecting some rain on Friday night. That means mud is a real possibility for the race. Last year, I installed a great addition to my bike in the form of a front fender. Although I could drop a few bucks on one, I made one instead. Here is the deal:

Parts and Equipment List:

1 1-liter water bottle
4 zip ties
1 knife or scissors to cut bottle

Purchase a one liter water bottle. Drink the water. Cut off both ends and split long ways down the middle. At each end, approximately the width of your bottom front tube of the bike frame, cut or punch two holes in the bottle half. Run zip ties through the holes and around the bottom front tube of the bike. Find a place to pee. After all, you drank a liter of water.

This will keep alot of splash from the front tire off of you as you ride and will also lessen the amount of mud and water in your face or on your glasses.

Good luck, good race. See you Saturday!

Bob Leslie
