![]() By walker on 6/21/2007 OK, yes and here's a good article on why the answer is yes: http://www.sfbike.org/?btwd. It says on May 17th, 2007 in San Francisco there were more bikes on Market Street than cars. So, did you participate in your town's Bike to Work Day? Durango's is coming up, so I'll try to measure our towns participation! |

Do Bike To Work Days Actually DO Anything For Our Cause? |
Mista_Bika says:
Yes I've heard on the radio that if one out of every 4 people biked to work ONCE a week, then it would save something like +10,000 tonnes or more of carbon dioxide a year.( I can't remeber the number but it was a HUGE number!) |
walker says:
Really! That's one helluva statistic... So, let's say 1000 yourmtb.com members participate in a bike to work day. That would mean we (the world) would save 10,000,000 tons of carbon? Even if it save 1 lbs, I still think it is worth it. I don't ride my bike to work everyday, but I try too. Maybe we're on to something here. Send this post out to your buddy list and let's see if we can talk about scheduling a bike to work day for yourmtb.com members. Thoughts??? Walker T Off the road, on the mind... |

The way to get people active appears to be prizes around here, am I wrong! So could we Get a Sponser who's into promoting bicycle commuting behind this? Maybe "Planet Bike" Would be interested. Then hold a contest related to the yourmtb.com bike to work day. Something like Best bicycle commute picture and story on day X. Maybe it,s how you organised your entire workplace to bike to work on that day or how you fixed a strangers bike so they could ride to work too. Do you think this would fly,or at least be Huckable. |

SpaceMonkey, great idea... Do you know anyone at Planet Bike??? Walker T Off the road, on the mind... |
Spacemonkey says:
No I just thought of them because they have this philosaphy "Planet Bike helps out by donating 25% of company profits to grassroots bicycle advocacy groups." So I think they might be interested in this sort of thing. |
