Fantasy Island - Tuscon, AZ

By TreeSaw on 6/2/2007

We hit the Fantasy Island Trails in Tuscon, AZ after racing the 24 hours in the Old Pueblo and they were AWESOME!!! Tight, flowing singletrack. Very well marked and some really fun little bowls and jumps to play on. Make sure you hit the over/under for a photo op. too!!!

Been there. It is a cool place to ride. Do you know if the area is still under threat of development...

I haven't heard an update lately. I know there was a petition going around and we all signed it, but as of last fall I know people were still riding there so hopefully it's still open when I am in town in February.

I rode there earlier this year. It was fun but definitely not a destination. The trails are too flat and not even a smidgen technical. Still, it would be a shame to see it developed. It's bad enough that it's State Trust Land and you're supposed to get a permit to ride there. Didn't I already pay for this land? (taxes)

I hate to bring up an on-going debate here, but what do you think about paying for trail access???

I really don't hasve a problem with paying for trail access, but that's probably because it's the norm around here. Our local club (Saratoga Mountain Bike Association aka SMBA) charges membership fees to cover the cost of the land we lease for our trail system. I also visit the Kingdom Trails in East Burke, VT as often as I can so we pay for a trail pass when we're there too (actually, we've started getting season passes there as well). Free trails are great, but I am definitely willing to pay to ride on some nice singletrack too!
