By rcwindell on 12/11/2007 I'm looking for a pair of clipless MTB shoes. I'm trying to pick up a pair of CrankBros Smarty pedal on eBay for cheap. Looking for shoes to go with them but there are so many choices out there. As a newer rider I still make spots that I have to walk up - there are lots of steep short hills where I ride (20yards). Whatever I get needs to have good hiking sole/traction. For athletic shoes I usually where an 11 and my feet are probably a little narrow. Any suggestions on brand/model would be great. Price is an issue right now - if I can pick them on eBay/etc for cheap would be great. Thanks

Good MTB shoes for beginner |
Levi says:
Usually Shimano and Pearl Izumi shoes are good and work well for the price. |
NVMtBiker says:
my only advice is avoid shimano shoes. they don't last long. other than that, just find something that fits without pinching and falls into your price range. |

I've become a big fan of specialized. Ever since they started with the "metatarsal button" I find that my feet don't go numb like they used to. |
sarge says:
I started with Pearl Izumi Vagabond's, they cost about $60.00 and have lasted 4 years. I use them with Crank Brothers Candy pedals with no problems. I finally ripped the mesh on the chain ring, but they will be great back up shoes. SARGE: NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER STOP TRYING! |

haven't been here in some time so this might be to late. but you can try a few bike web sites. JensonUSA.com Pricepoint has lots of Combo deals where you can get shoes and pedals together at a pretty good discount. |
