Hey from Lander, Wyoming

By houseoffu on 7/13/2007

Hey all,
I live in the beautiful mountain town of Lander, Wyoming. We have a handful of o.k. trails, but nothing to brag about. The potential here is amazing and we are starting to see a little more trail development! I ride an Iron Horse Hollowpoint MKIII.
I am an Assistant Professor of Art so I get summers off. I try to ride as much as I can. Life is good.

Hey there. I grew up in Lander and now live in Telluride, CO, where I split time between the trails here and those in nearby Moab area. I'm coming home this weekend to do a backpack trip with my family, but have a couple days in Lander before we head to the Winds. I'm thinking of bringing my bike, but never rode trails at all when I lived there. Got any suggestions for fun trails?

Hey Katie good to meet you. I am jealous of the trails you get to ride! Here is the best I can do for you in Lander. Johnny behind the rocks....some pretty fun single rack and a few technical spurs. The Bus....close to town...a few fun sections of single track and some good hill climbs. If you are in for a real technical ride then Worthen meadows to Sheep Bridge to the middle fork trail is fun...warning, it is very rocky!

Directions from Lander:
Johnny Behind the Rocks- Take 287 and turn at the Muddy Gap/Rawlins exit. Travel about 8 miles..you will see tall red cliffs on the left and a small farm with a red rock barn and oil wells to the right. About a 1/4 mile after the farm on the left is a green gate with a graveled lot, this is it..it is BLM. There is a two track running straight out of the parking lot. On the right of the lot is a single track. And up the two track and to the left is another single track. All routes lead to each other and in true Wyoming fashion are poorly marked and can be easily missed!

The Bus- Take Baldwin Creek road (by the High School)about 5-6 miles to a small parking area on the right..it is right after a cattle guard. On the left is a parcel of public land with a single track entrance. There is a two/three track up the middle of the valley with single track spurs on either side. You can link all kinds of loops together.

Worthen Meadows-Go to Sinks Canyon and up the loop road to Worthen Meadows. Park in the lot and take the sheeps bridge trail down to the middle fork. You will end up in the Falls trail parking lot. It is about 10 miles. You can either shuttle back up to your car or ride the loop road. Construction is going on right now so you have to be up there before 10:00am or after 4:00pm.

You can also ride the cross country ski trails in the canyon as well.

Hope this helps. Have a good visit.
