How to build a custom moutian bike?

I am wondering what one needs to build a custom mountain bike. I have been searching the net with out much success on a how to. What parts are needed? What tools are needed. Do you know of any good online shops who carry quality parts? Do you know of a how-to page on the internet or a book?

um... look for repair books. Both "Zinn and the art of Mt Biking" and "Mountain Bike Maintenance: The Illustrated Manual" I use both regularly. I think the Zinn book has more info, but there are lots of times the pictures in the Illustarted one kinda helps clarify things. they both have lots on building and repairing.. good place to start.
