By venomos on 6/22/2008 So has anyone dealt with these guys or ridden one of these bikes? The specs and reviews look good, but since I cant see it in person and Im still new at this, I dont know if this is a good buy or not. Im not looking for the best thing out there, but I want a VERY good bike at a semi decent price. I am looking more less for a Free Ride bike I believe. From the research and information I have gathered, thats the style of riding I will be doing. Some street, some trails, and definately some jumps. Basically looking for what a dirtbike would do without the motor! LOL! Here is the bike I found, but dont know much about it or have seen anything or heard anything from the LBS or other sources. http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/fantom_team08.htm
It is a 2008 Motobecane Fantom Team Mountain Bike Shimano XTR, Reba Team, Bonus Lockout Front, Newest Rockshox Monarch 4.2 rear Check out the link and give me your honest thoughts and opinions.
Thanks! |

Looking for some input on a bike... |

I could be wrong but it looks more like a cross country then a free ride bike to me. so Good for street, great for trails and unsure on the jumps. I would look at something with a beefeyer Frame, for jumping. Others please correct me If I'm Wrong, but I'd say for all-mountain or freeriding you'll want a bike with a sturdy frame. |

From what I have seen on YouTube and tried to do myself, if you want to do tricks and trick jumping, a hard tail is the only way to have any control over your jumps. But I agree with Spacemonkey, that's a good cross country, and some mountain. You might want to check out a down hill bike. Those bikes are built to be beaten. |

i think of all-mountain as a xc/freeride hybrid. you're looking for something that can take some punishment, but can be human-powered to the top of the hill. let's face it, freeriders are more the ski lift set and rarely if ever sit and spin. that said, if you plan to get up the hill on a lift or in a truck, go beefy and get a straight up freeride bike: beefy frame, big gussets, probably 6 inches of travel, maybe more. if you're looking for an all mountain bike that can be ridden to the top of the hill AND take some drops: beefy gussets, 5-6 inches of travel, probably less than 35 pounds. the bike you're looking at is definitely neither. it's a straight xc bike. light frame, 4 inches of travel, light gussetting, and light, high-spec xtr parts. check out the motobecane website http://www.motobecane.com/MBUSAftt.html for the real poop on the bike. from what i understand they're pretty well reviewed, but i've never ridden one. |
