Mongoose Teocali Super- Super price, Super Everything- Review

By ehansen007 on 8/2/2006
The Teocali Super lives up "Super" stature

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to post this up for those looking for a next step in full suspensionand new all around bike. I recently purchased a Teocali Super (Large) from my local Performance shop and I think it's one of the best purchases I've ever made. For $1799, it could be the best bike going for the money. When you add up all the components, it's like getting the frame for free and the frame is pretty sweet in and of itself! I shopped it against the Giant Trance and Reign, which had similar pricing but a lower level of componentry as well as the specialized. I've just been so happy with this bike I had to share. Here are the major buy points:

- Mongoose "Free-Drive" geometry 4/5 in. travel adjust (similar to GT I-Drive)
no bob on climbing at all!
- Rockshox Pike Dual air fork with remote pop lock 5in travel
- Rockshox Pearl MC rear shock with adjustable gate and lockout
- Juicy 7 hyro disc brakes
- Sun SOS wheels with Kenda Nevegal 2.35s (awesome tire)
- Truvativ Stem, taper bars, and crankset
- SPD pedals (I can't believe some bikes come without pedals these days)
- SRAM 9.0 27 speed setup
- Under $2000!!!!
- Comes in Flat Black!

The only beef I had with this bike is the seat. They put on the I-Beam which limits your choice of to say.....oh....nothing! So I put on an Easton post and my old Terry Fly saddle which I love.

I've also added lizard skins stay guard and fork boots and a Salsa Bash guard.

This is not the lightest bike (31 lbs) but man does it rip downhill! Climbing is very good too thanks to the Freedrive technology with the option to lock out the rear. I think this bike really has the best of both worlds. I can climb with the hardtail guys and bomb with the downhillers. 5 in of travel seems to be the sweetspot and I've had a fun time set up the front and rear suspension to my liking. It corners very well through the fast single tracks. I have yet to have it push or wash thanks to the Nevegal tires and predictability of the suspension.

Most people can't believe I bought this bike for under $2000 when they see all the components. Heck, I still can't believe it! Highly recommended to those willing to take the next step in full suspesion with out killing the wallet.
