President Bush riding with the Chinese National Team

I'm not sure if you you all know this, but President Bush rides a Trek. However, do you feel like his trail protection and environmental policies have done much for mountain biking in this country?

Signed,

Unfortunately the mind cannot see clearly when clouded with oily residue.

Indeed I did hear the latest...

"A plan that would have allowed more snowmobiles and A-T-V's in national parks, while also putting less of an emphasis on conservation has been killed.

It's one of the first policy decisions made by new Interior Secretary Dirk Kemphorne.

A draft of the new policy stresses that when there's a conflict over preserving or using natural and historical places, conservation will still be the parks' top priority.

The draft also says the parks should shoot for the highest clean air standard, preserve their solitude and keep lands eligible for wilderness designations free from snowmobiles, A-T-Vs and other intrusions.

Former Interior Secretary Gale Norton and the National Park Service had proposed wide-ranging park management changes that opponents had said would benefit commercial and recreation interests while hurting conservation.

I hate to say this, but I wonder if this is more akin to a wolf in sheep's clothing. I sure hope not!

I am not sure that the policy for trail conservation is at the top of the Presidents list. I know there are other things they wanted to take care of first. I would love to see some more conservation efforts put into place. I am just not sure that we will see very much of that in the future. Especially with the elections on the way.
