review of suspension and gears from a rigid ss'er

By pedro1 on 6/25/2007

i seemed to have striped my bottom bracket on my ss making it unrideable till i figure out how to get it out. ( if you have any ideas let me know!!!!! ) so i got my geared klein up and running and went for my daily ride. i noticed three things while riding. ) 1 riding a geared bike is almost obnoxiously loud with all the chain and derailers bangin around. ) 2 climbing with a suspension fork almost felt harder to do due to compression of the shock as opposed to the rigid on my ss. i know about lockouts but i have a fox f 80x with the terra logic vaulve. it dosent compress as mush from the top but if you hit a pebble you get 3-4 in of travel, which is good if thats what your lookin for. )3 the ride seemed to jolt me arond on the bike more than my rigid does. i guess all the traveling in the shock makes your body move more than as a rigid your body seems to absorb the hit. all in all i still love my klein and gears are good but i got used to single speed rigid and i think im now a lil partial to the rigid. the gears are nice to have but i noticed i didnt shift low to climb, i stayed where i always do( the 32-20 on my ss ) but ran big boy gears on the flats which was nice to be able to move along.
