snap goes the rear derailleur

OK. just riding along this afternoon.. me and a few friends on a very simple trail. I had loaned my hard-tail giant to a friend to ride. well about 2 miles in he goes over a very small bump and the mount for the rear derailleur snaps off. .. ECKKKK it's still under warr. so it's not that big of a deal but I was thinking of replacing it anyway cause it's basically a piece of junk. (by the way we over tightend the quick release on the rear tire which just caught the edge of it enough to made it all the way out)

SO question ?

what's everyones opinion on a lesser expensive rear derailleur and shifter.

It was a very cheap Shamiaro... and I have a Sram x7 on my soft-tail bike which I love. but I'm kinda looking for more experienced people's opinions

oh ya... and it's a 7 speed cassette not a 9 (which looking around i have yet to find any derailluers that fit it)

I've got an XT on my rear race bike and it's ok. I have a full scram xo set up on my girls bike and her's blows shimano set ups away. Go with scram.

Somwhere on the net (you'll have to do some searching) I remember seeing a video that showed the reaction of rear sram/shimano derailleurs over rough terrain and the difference was quite significant. I run a sram although it just an x9. If it's the hanger that snapped, it's designed to snap under certain forces otherwise the frame would get damaged, sounds a little odd to me though.

By the way, this Isn't a derailleur problem, you can buy all sorts of upgraded mounts for all different derailleurs, maybe it was cracked and the little rock was the last straw but a mount should only cost a few dollars, maybe 20 at most.

ya.. so far i have found the Sram systems seem to shift more "solidly" i guess is the word... lot less clicky clacky...

anyone know where i can get a diff brand of hanger? I looked around and the all seem to be for a certian type of frame. problem is that the one for this giant frame are all the cheap pot metal. have a feeling it's going to happen again. i saw a few that seemed really nice but all for someone elses frame.. :(

i have a 8 speed and use a deore xt designed for a 9 speed. the derailleurs are backwards compatible, the shifters aren't.
