STRANDED!

By KonaRider666 on 10/16/2007

So I was out for a little ride to cool off after a 100 hour work week (not as cool as it sounds, I'm sallary!) and I was about 5 miles from home when I got a flat. I had a patch kit and a spare tube and a pump so I was ready for anything. Or so I thought! As I was almost done pumping the thing up, the head snapped off of the pump and air just dumped out of it! I pulled the head of the pump off the stem and I was "lucky" to have a half full tire. This made for a miserable ride home with all my weight on the bars asto not  pinch the tube and have to walk. Has anyone else ever had this problem? It was a Blackburn pump and the head just snapped off right after the elbow. I guess I shouldn't be riding alone. That would be the only way to havoided this one!

If you're fussy about weight this may not appeal to you, but I like to carry not only a small pump, but also a couple of the small air canisters and inflator adaptor. (I reserve this level of caution to when I ride alone.) Weighs little and takes up minimal room in your pack. That would've saved you.

That sucks. 4 of us were just riding through trails around batsto villiage in NJ and between us we had 8 flat tires. Mine was the only one with no flats. We had pumps and those handy co2 pumps as well. At least you were only 5 miles out.

I'll definitely be picking up a couple of those canisters. Probably the best back up.

8 is a lot of tires! Were they tubeless?
