striped bottom bracket

the teeth on my bottom bracket are pretty much round. it was passed down to me from my bro who was ex art director of dirt rag.( yeah it was sweet, free carbon cranks etc...) it seems to be in a lil cocked and i cant get a good enough grip with the bb tool to get it out to put the new one my bro gave me in. my roomy says use a pair of vice grips but theirs only like an 1/8 of material to grip to. any suggestions?
