Tech question for Manitou Swinger 3-way Shock

Hello all,
I recently purchased a 2005 Jamis Dakar XLT frame and shock from Jensonusa.com to build up a bike for my wife. Everything seemed to come together very well with the exception of the rear shock. Its a Manitou Swinger 3-way and the main chamber (black valve) leaks air and will deflate in a few hours while just sitting in the garage. The red SPV valve seems to hold air just fine. I have an e-mail in to Manitou asking for help but I thought I would see if anyone out there has had similar problems and any possible solutions. Thanks
Mike

I have a 2004 Swinger 6-way coil-over (not air sprung like yours) and I have had all sorts of problems with it (oil leaking, air leaking, air spraying oil, you name it). Getting it fixed by Manitou is out of the question unless you can except many seasons of down time. Get it warrantied by jenson.

Thanks for the feedback, FoShizzle. I wanted to wait until I had a definite answer to this problem before I posted again but no such luck. I did get an e-mail reply from Manitou and they gave a couple suggestions to diagnose the problem. To see where it is leaking I took the shock off and put it in a bucket of water, simple but effective. The leak is located where the valve connects to the main chamber. I assume a new seal and maybe some thread sealer would fix the issue. I sent it to JensonUSA and they are forwarding it on to Manitou for repairs. In the meantime, I did find a used replacement shock at the Boulder Sports Recycler for $23 that fits great. Its an old Fox Float that rides like a pogo stick, but it works and makes for a great spare. Hopefully I can get it all back together soon. I will let everyone know the final decision and how Manitou and Jenson do with customer service.

Hi I got one from Santa Cruz recently and my valve stem was loosened while I was taking my pump off.I was actually surprised how loose it was.

Did you try tightening it
I just used the pump nut for leverage to tighten my valve stem and it hasn’t leaked since!

Hello again,
Thanks for the suggestion E.T. And sorry for the very late response as I kind of forgot about this after it was resolved. But I wanted to finish this up so here is how it all played out.
The guys at JensonUSA received my shock and promptly sent it to Manitou for repairs or replacement. After 2 months of waiting, the guys at Jenson were frustrated with Manitou and sent me a "new" shock off of one of their bikes in the warehouse. Jenson of course could have done this to start with, but I figure they had to at least try to get Manitou to stand behind their products. So they seemed to do everything they could given the circumstances, and I will give them a lot of credit for that. I will definitely buy from JensonUSA again. However, I will not buy a Manitou product ever again. Customer service is very important for brand loyalty, and so many manufacturers and retailers don't seem to get that.
