Who rides a 29er?

Qball and the Burley Trailer

It seems to me that there is a bigger SS community of riders that have 29ers. I got one last August and its a breath of fresh air. Riding rigid and SS on a 29er is zen like. My 29er is a Scott Quiring Qball, a semi-custom made steel frame from Michigan.

One thing I changed recently and I can't believe the effect it has on the bike is that I added this bars from Misphit Pyscles called FUBars. They are similar to Marybars, just not as wide. What is remarkable about them is that they put your hands at your sides, so that when you come out of the saddle to climb, like all SSers do, your arms and hands are in a natural position, at your sides, and the leverage in incredible!

So, if you have a 29er, let's see it!

Here is mine. There is a bottle opener built into the frame, too! Here is my Qball rigged for kid Duty, pulling my sons in their Burley trailer. Thus its really not set up for off road riding. Have to get you all an updated picture, soon.

I love my 29'er SS. It is so much fun to hammer the trails with that monster...

I love the trailer. Tell me, is it easier pulling the kids with a 29'er or 26'er???

I think its easier pulling the kids with the 29er however, the arm for Burley is really set up for a 26er, so if you are going to use a Burley with a 29er then you need to use the axel mount. I went out and got a second wheelset with QR to handle this and it works great, except if you have horizontal drops you definitely want to ensure you have tugnuts on both sides because if you have to come to a sudden stop on a hill, the weight of your kid(s) and burley is going push the axel forward, no matter how tight you have it. Found that out this spring. Spent 30 mins trying to put things to right in the middle of a downpour and a screaming kid.

Now that is some perspective... I guess one could say that a full Bob trailer would have the same dynamics/trim. What do you think?

Bob trailer, as in tractor trailer? Been there, done that in the Army. Used be a subsistence officer for a logistics unit and came across all sorts of situations using trucks to deliver things to the troops. Like using a tractor that is only made for a military trailer and using it on a civilian trailer that doesn't have the same connections. But the troops gotta eat! We gott'er done!

Oh, those kinds of trailers. I don't think there is clearance for a 29er. You would have to measure the distance from the axle to the front of the trailer and see if there is enough clearance.
