By sarge on 6/29/2007 ![]() This was the old train tunnel above Donner Lake, near Lake Tahoe. The train tracks were pulled in the late 90's and now you can ride the trails and road through the mountain instead of around or over it. I felt like I was in the movie "The Goonies" as I rode through in the dark with only a helmet light. |

What trail is that? I live near lake tahoe and that looks sweet. what else is on the trail? What other trails have you ridden in tahoe? There are some really awesome trails up there!! |

The trail starts at Donner Ski Ranch off the old Hwy on the west end of Donner Lake. If you start at Donner Ski Ranch, go across the Hwy and the ride begins at the old tunnel where the photo was taken. The road will take you east through several tunnels until you get to a gravel road. It helps to have a light system in a couple of the tunnels. The temp outside was in the high 80's and inside the tunnel was about 50 and melted snow made it's way inside so it was dripping wet in spots. Awsome ride! Continue east until you get above Donner State Park and take a left off the trail past the last tunnel onto a screaming single track down to the Cold Stream Valley and end in the State Park. I have ridden the Flume, Old Emegrant, Cold Stream, Paige Meadows, and some others in the area. My favorite place to ride. SARGE: NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER STOP TRYING! |
