By sarge on 1/2/2007 ![]() Sarge teaching a Law Enforcement Bicycle Association class at the range. Officers had to complete 1 mile, all out sprint on the surrounding trails with obstacles, ending up on the range to fire their duty sidearm. Bike officers have to get 100% on the target to pass this section of the range course. It is way harder than it seems. Going anaerobic and trying to keep your mind and body in focus is a challenge. |

Thats crazy... Although I don't like guns too much it sort of sounds fun! |
sarge says:
Guns are scary if you are not familiar with them, thats why we train so much. Once you get confortable with them, it is fun. |

That is pretty cool. Sort of like that Olympic sport where you ski and then target shoot http://library.thinkquest.org/J002862/bia.htm I was talking to a bike patrol guy here at a convenience store and he showed me some pretty amazing trackstand and slow stuff he could do on his bike. Like the store had these metal poles in the ground to keep people from crashing into the store and the gas pumps. They're about 3 ft apart and a row of six and he threaded through them at maybe .5 miles per hour. |

Most of the training we do is very slow, stop and balance type riding. For example, working a large event with alot of people. We are stopping, (trackstand) and moving slowly through the crowd. Also working between cars and objects in a parking lot. The same skills needed to ride off road, looking through the corner, brake control. Real fun stuff. |

Great stuff. Is this the normal response for someone who don't have their dog on a lead. ;-) |
