By Steve Outing on 9/30/2006 I saw some weird stuff at Interbike this week, like this contraption. It's a power-assist wheel set-up from RevoPower, powered by gas that's in the water bottle you see on this demo bike. While this bike has no suspension, the RevoPower website shows the thing on a full-suspension mountain bike! ... I could've used this yesterday while on a really sandy trail outside of Las Vegas, when my legs just weren't up to the task! 8^) Actually, the Interbike trade show had a LOT of power-assisted bikes. There seem to be a growing number of companies tapping into the market of bike commuters. With high gas prices and the threat of global warming, the trends would seem to indicate that more people will move to bike commuting in time. Of course, most of the power-assist bikes are electric; that this one uses a 2-stroke gas engine is kinda bizarre. |

They really are no different then the Mopeds of years gone by. We've always had gas powered bikes. I do aggree with windsurfing though when he comments on just how lazy people have become. I love cyling and cyclo-commuting because it forces me to dig deep for the power to keep going. I don't really want to have the option to kick start the machine. It does look like people will be heading that way though. Pretty soon, they'll call cats like me...RETRO! Cheers, "I Will Never Draw Ethical Circles Around The Things That I Do". |
