By tmg820 on 5/8/2008 Two organizations, the New England Mountain Bike Association and the Newtown Bridle Lands Association, have teamed up with a trail proposal for the Department of Environmental Protection so that both mountain bikers and horse enthusiasts can have a place to "play" at the Upper Paugussett State Forest in Newtown. Both organizations have been working on the 2.5-mile Upper Gussy Trail with hopes of it opening this fall. The trail will begin at the Pond Brook boat ramp on Lake Lillinona and will end at an access way off Sanford Road. |
New MTB Trail Opens in El Paso County, Colorado

By tmg820 on 5/8/2008 Just recently, the El Paso County Parks Department, with a big help from volunteer workers, finished a new mountain biking trail in Bear Creek Park. The trail is 2.5 miles and was designed specifically for mountain biking. Some local retailers and organizations have already begun organizing mountain biking races at the park for the summer. |

The 26TRIX dirt jump promises to be the coolest highlight over the weekend as well as the Kona Top 2 Bottom Terminator dual slalom as the world's best jumpers display their talents. |

Manufacturers like Santa Cruz, Yeti, Saracen, Carrera and Trek will show off their new goodies. An interesting attraction though, will be the selection of electric mountain bikes from Yorkshire-based ElectricMountainBikes.com. Yes, you read correctly, electric mountain bikes. The bikes they will be displaying will be equipped with electric motor kits and state-of-the-art lightweight lithium technology batteries. |
Biking Season in Vermont Begins

By tmg820 on 5/1/2008 Both mountain biking and road biker groups and clubs in central Vermont are starting to organize events now that better weather has arrived. Onion River Sports in Montpelier have begun their weekly group rides and races officially this past Tuesday with a women's group ride at 6:15 pm covering about 20 to 30 miles. Events will take place every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Owner Andrew Brewer said, "We're getting a little crowded with rides. There's only so many nights in a week." |
Rocky Mountain Dirt Series

This year, their 8th season, they began their camp in North Vancouver on April 19-20. The program this year has 19 women's-only and co-ed camps in Sun Valley, Southern California, Park City, North Vancouver and Whistler, BC. Each camp is two days long and offers skill sessions in small groups, instructional rides to practice new techniques and opportunities to try out equipment from industry sponsors. |
Durano Mountain Bike Championships

By tmg820 on 5/1/2008 Danao City, which is known as the mountain bike capital of the Philippines, will be holding their 20th annual 1st Congressman Red Durano International Road and Mountain Bike Championships May 3 and 4. More than 600 riders from around the world will participate in the cross country and downhill mountain bike race. Among these will be the top riders in Southeast Asia, including Ali Usman, Marittes Bitbit, Joey Barba and Nono Surban. Big prizes await the winners while raffle promos and freebees await observers. |

However, the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) needs your support to make these improvements a reality. One of the policies proposed is the Primitive Bicycle Corridor which will continue to allow riding in wild, undeveloped areas.
