Biking Season in Vermont Begins

By tmg820 on 5/1/2008

Both mountain biking and road biker groups and clubs in central Vermont are starting to organize events now that better weather has arrived.

Onion River Sports in Montpelier have begun their weekly group rides and races officially this past Tuesday with a women's group ride at 6:15 pm covering about 20 to 30 miles. Events will take place every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Owner Andrew Brewer said, "We're getting a little crowded with rides. There's only so many nights in a week."

On Tuesdays, they will race at the Morse Farm in East Montpelier starting on June 14 through August 16.  Kids will race at 6 pm and then adults head out at 6:30 pm. On Wednesdays, group rides take place at different trailheads at 6:15, while Thursdays boast longer rides moving at a quicker pace.  If it's a mellower ride you are after, Saturdays at 9 am are the way to go.  These meet at the ORS parking lot and covers about 25 to 35 miles.

In addition, the Stowe Bike Club will host time trials each Wednesday afternoon at different locations as well.

For more information on these group rides, contact Onion River Sports at 229-9409 and Stowe Bike Club at 253-7662.
