By sarge on 2/26/2007 on sarge's blog Our department is so dedicated the mountain bike patrol program, we were given our own room now. It holds our (6) patrol bikes, bike repair stand, bike lockers behind the door for helmets, coats, training equipment, and a tool bench with all needed bike tools, grease, lube, etc. The department paid my way to United Bicycle Institute so I can now repair the fleet of bikes. It is amazing when I look at were we are now, compared to when we started about 4 years ago. I started with my own personal bike. The more the community saw that the bike officers were out, the more they wanted. Fast forward to today, we are adding (2) bike officers and (2), brand new Trek Police Bikes. We have the entire month of May booked to be involved with parades, bike safety fairs, extra patrol targeted areas, and elementary school functions. In April, Corporal Fulmer, aka: Corporal Punishment, and I are going to the International Police Mountain Bike Association yearly conference in Baton Rouge LA, thanks to Steve Outing for a few extra stickers that I plan on handing out at the conference to advertise YOURMTB.COM. There will be Mountain Bike Patrol Officers from all over the world there. I will come back with full details. Anyway, very excited about the new room , equipment and this upcoming year. Like I have said before, I feel very lucky getting to mountain bike for a living, true I have to wear a bullet proof vest and carry a 40mm Glock to ride, but that's ok, that's the reason we train so much. Thanks again for all the kind words and support for what we do. Sarge NEVER GIVE UP NEVER QUIT TRYING |

Bike Patrol Room |

I hope that one day our program of two can be where you guys are. I love to ride and I wish that a few more of our guys shared the passion of riding, instead of driving around and eating fast food. I got to tell you I am impressed with your program. I just got my first city paid for bike, so hopefully the city will push for more bikes. Thanks for the inspiration. Very nice patrol room, I have a room too, its called the garage. They don't let me bring my bike indoors. |

Well we started where you are now. It took a lot of hours of pedalling in the heat and tons of my own time to get us where we are today. I agree with the other guys being motivated. Even the others on our team need a kick now nd then. 3 of us are die hard, the others do a good job. The big seller with our program is the community policing and safety programs with the kids. If you can convince your Chief, try to make it to Baton Rouge for the IPMBA conference. Check out thier web site for the courses and sessions that are offered. Our chief is good about letting us go to training and conferences, so I will definitely put in for it. I have seen IPMBA's website and they do offer some courses close to the Omaha area so I am going to try to get in some of those. Thanks. |

Corporal Punishment and I are going to be there from Wednesay, April 19 to Saturday April 21. We won't be doing any of the on bike courses, only the classroom classes. Im going through the supervisor and grant writing courses. CP is going to the bicycle education and bike rodeo type courses. Im putting on a Law Enforcement Bicycle Association basic "A" course on Monday May 21 to the 24th.If you can find a way out here to Oregon, I'll waive the fee for you. So 4 days of bike class for free! Then you will be certified. If you contact me at jeffb@cp-pd.com I can send you class info. SARGE: NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER STOP TRYING! |
