Support Is Your Fifth Teammate

Home Away From Home - My tent where I was able to get some sleep during the race.

It has already been nearly a week since the 24 Hours of Moab and I feel as through there is so much more to blog about it.  The race may be over, but the spirit still remains.  And with that thought I'll keep rambling on about my experience there.

I have heard from others that "Support is your fifth teammate."

I cannot agree with that enough.

The fans around the starting area - the excitement builds

No rain, no wind and all fun! That's how I'd describe Moab this year. The 13th annual 24-hours of Moab finished without the death rain from last year! It was all fun and no suffering for this rider.

24 Hours of Moab is In The Books

What an amazing event!!!  I have never done anything like it!  I loved it!

The trails were great.  The riders were great.  The volunteers and staff were great.  I could keep going...

However, I'm exhausted.  The one thing I didn't plan for was the 3rd part/challenge to a 24 hour race.

Part 1:  Planning, traveling, and preparing/setup.
Part 2:  Racing.

“Why on Earth would you ride a bike for 24 hours?”

By ray on 9/25/2007 on ray's blog

“You’re doing what?”

“Are you crazy?”

Or, that dark voice that comes to you as you shake uncontrollably in the wee hours of the darkness: why am I doing this?

In this modern-convenience, creature-comfort, drink-cozy (‘Ooooh! That beer’s too cold to hold!”) age, doing a 24-hour race seems, well, if not outright ‘crazy’ then definitely on the wrong side of ‘well-adjusted.’

24 Hours of Landahl -- Man, that was fun...

After downpour-style rains the night prior to the 2007 24 Hours of Landahl, everybody was stoked to be greeted to absolutely perfect weather at noon Saturday for the race start.
