A wonderful ride. The climb out of Harbin is very long and strenuous, but getting into the forest is very worth the effort. Make sure to keep your legs moving on the way back.

  • Good beginner/get-in-shape trail. Climb to top, bomb back down. When you get to the top, you can continue on to O'Melveny (sweet singletrack) either by making it a shuttle or out/back, be sure to use Neon to 3-trees for the climb back up. Another option is Weldon Canyon to the old road (by the gun club), but why waste downhill on the street?
  • Best to park outside of Towsley, ride up the Old Road to avoid paying the $3 parking fee.
  • Total elevation gain is 1380 ft to water tower.

5.2 mile loop, 95% singletrack, tough up, sweet down.

  • Great trail, but you must be in shape. The switchback section is difficult, few are known to make it clean to the top without stopping. Lots of hikers on weekends/holidays, usually not too many bikers. Lots of wildlife, I've seen deer, snakes and lizards. You hear about mountain lions, but never encountered.
  • Its a short loop, do it twice, or do the inner loop, which has more hikers, or you can head up the road to East Canyon.
